Hailed as a love letter to children of Ghanaian immigrants and to the Bronx, this comedy drama is the story of Sarah Obeng, the daughter of Ghanaian parents and a brainy doctoral student at Columbia University. Her plans to give up her studies and follow her very married boyfriend to Ohio are suddenly upended when her mother dies, leaving Sarah as the owner of her house and a small Christian bookstore in the Bronx. In planning a traditional Ghanaian funeral for her mother, Sarah not only becomes reconnected to her Ghanaian heritage, but also to her family, friends and neighbors in the Bronx.
