This stark and compelling film tells of Saga’s return to his village and his tragic discovery that his fiancée, Nogma, has married during his absence. The fact that her new husband is Saga’s own father creates a conflict of oedipal proportions. Their continued love violates tilai, the village code of honor prohibiting incest. Winner of the 1990 Jury Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and the 1991 Grand Prize at FESPACO.
In Mooré with English subtitles.
