Hyenas tells the story of Linguère Ramatou, a poor young girl who is seduced, made pregnant, and then cast off by a young man in search of a wealthy wife. Driven out of the village in shame, she turns to prostitution and becomes incredibly wealthy. When she returns to the village, the villagers predictably have a very different attitude towards her. They are prepared to do anything for her in order to secure her largesse; she in turn is prepared to ask anything of them.
In Wolof with English subtitles.
