Last Flight to Abuja, a high-octane airplane disaster thriller, is part of the “New Wave” of Nigerian cinema that aims to improve technical production of Nollywood films to appeal to and attract a wider audience. Through a series of flashbacks, we get to know the passengers and what brought them to this moment of crisis. Starring two of Nollywood’s most popular actors, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and Hakeem Kae-Kazim, the film is engrossing, moving, suspenseful, and entertaining in spite of the looming disaster. Based on a series of fatal air crashes that shocked Nigerians in 2005 and 2006, the film is dedicated to spotlighting aviation safety in Nigeria. Winner of the Best Film by an African Abroad at the 2013 African Movie Academy Awards. We are honored to have director Obi Emelonye at the screening on February 14 to present and discuss his film.
