African Drum, Beyond the Beat delivers the multi-faceted portrait of the drum in West African society, exploring the many social functions it performs. This highly informative film uses an ode to the African drum to demonstrate the instrument’s pervasive role in society over time, from uses in work songs, to communication, to religious rituals, through to its more contemporary use by fans at football games.
