Opening Night with Film Director Blitz Bazawule
We are delighted to open our 30th anniversary festival with The Burial of Kojo, a dazzling modern-day fable from Ghana, and to welcome film director and renowned musician and hip-hop artist, Blitz Bazawule, to Portland to present his film. Filled with magic realism, dramatic imagery and rich colors, and complemented by Bazawule’s striking music, the film tells the story of the tumultuous relationship between two brothers, Kojo and Kwabena. Narrated by Kojo’s prescient young daughter Esi, the film transports the audience to rural and urban parts of Ghana and other realms that exist between life and death.
In Twi and English with English subtitles.
Q&A with director after both showings.
