Centerpiece Film Celebrating Sudanese Cinema

Four venerable Sudanese filmmakers reunite to bring life back to their old dream of making cinema a reality in Sudan. Each studied filmmaking abroad, in another era that promised a future of African cineastes, a promise unfulfilled when civil war erupted in their country. Returning from exile, they have joined together to form the Sudanese Film Group. For their first project, they decide to restore and revive an old cinema and invite the neighborhood to watch Quentin Tarrantino’s Django Unchained. Director Gasmelbari’s scenes are quietly beautiful, glorying in capturing these extraordinary men and their ability to persevere through bitterness, thanks to the centrality of cinema in their lives and the spirit of friendship that binds them together.

In Arabic, English and Russian with English subtitles.
