2021 Festival

The 2021 Cascade Festival of African Films will be held virtually from February 5 to March 10, 2021. The festival will remain free and open to the public, but films will be shown online. Check back here soon for more details and the list of films!

Alyam, Alyam / Oh the Days!

The first Moroccan film to be selected at the Cannes Film Festival, Alyam, Alyam tells the story of Abdelwahad, the eldest son of eight children, who lives with his family in a small Moroccan village. He has bold dreams and a desire for a better future, and he wants to leave the village to work in France. The film reveals how his dreams become shattered, a story still relevant today.

Restored by Cineteca di Bologna/L’Immagine Ritrovata laboratory, in association with Ahmed El Maanouni.  Restoration funded by The Film Foundation’s World Cinema Project.
This restoration is part of the African Film Heritage Project, created by The Film Foundation, FEPACI and UNESCO – in collaboration with Cineteca di Bologna – to help locate, restore, and disseminate African cinema.

African Film Heritage Series

This special Wednesday evening series is courtesy of the African Film Heritage Project, a branch of Martin Scorsese’s The Film Foundation/World Cinema Project, which is dedicated to locating and preserving 50 classic African films, some thought lost and others thought beyond repair. We are pleased to show these films in conjunction with The Film Foundation’s 30th year anniversary.
