CFAF Country Notes for Burkina Faso
Duga (vultures) are scavengers that live off dead animals. This film is about modern Burkinabe society where many people are on the make, and Muslims, Christians and animists are deeply entrenched in their own practices. Rasmané finds it is not easy to bury the body of his friend Pierre, who is not baptized, does not have a Muslim name, and is not a member of any of the country’s religious communities. Duga is a hilarious satire on traditional chiefs, religious leaders, bureaucrats, and other absurdities of life. Winner of the Best Feature Film at FESPACO 2019.
In French and Dyula with English subtitles.
