CFAF Country Notes for South Africa
Barakat, which means “blessings,” is a comedy about love and the importance of family. It’s also a celebration of the rich South African Muslim culture of Cape Town. Set during Eid-al-Fitr, the film is about the Davids family -an aging matriarch and her four squabbling grown sons who are opposed to their widowed mother marrying again. Barakat is South Africa’s 2022 Oscars pick.
In Afrikaans and English with English subtitles.
