Watch movie: No Gold for Kalsaka

CFAF Country Notes for Burkina Faso

This brilliant documentary is a damning indictment against the British mining company that exploited the villagers of Kalsaka for the gold lying under their sacred hill, and, once they’d mined 18 tons of gold, for leaving Kalsaka with broken promises and the people in misery, their land polluted and uncultivatable, their water poisoned, and their health ruined. The film serves as a powerful tool to tell the world about this great injustice and to gather support for the villagers in their quest for justice and reparations. To underscore his theme, filmmaker Michel Zongo intersperses the film with images of three Western-style cowboys on horseback, accompanied by Ennio Morricone’s score for the spaghetti Western, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
In French and Mooré with English subtitles.
